Picnic at Central Park

Exa and I met at Central Park to have a picnic and enjoy the beautiful weather. Abby enjoyed feeling the texture of the grass and hearing the dried leaves crinkle.

Exa brought my favorite, chicken salad sandwiches from Must Be Heaven. Abby grabbed handfuls of goldfish and shoved them in her mouth.

We tried to feed bread to the ducks, but the ducks just weren't interested. Who knew they were picky ducks?

So then we headed to explore the playground. Abby went down the slide a few times with assistance. Here's a picture where she is trying to go up the slide.

Abby discovered gravel; she tasted it too!

The best part was the toddler swing.

What a week!

Abby babbles more than ever. "Num-a-num-a-num-a." I'm not sure what it means, but here are some possibilities:
1. I love sitting on the couch playing with toys.
2. Mother, you look fabulous today. But, of course, you always look fabulous.
3. I could sure go for an ice cream sandwich right about now.
4. When is Nana and PawPaw coming back from Alaska?

Abby changed daycares this past week. We just had the last straw with the old one. I love the new one. The workers in the infant room just gushed about Abby and how good she is (but we knew that already *wink, wink*). They were also amazed that Abby ate the entire ice cream sandwich for snack. No surprise to me. The girl loves ice cream.

Abby and I ran errands this beautiful Saturday morning. I finished her Halloween dress, so I picked up fabric to make a Christmas dress, a stroller cover, and a new restaurant high chair cover.

We had dinner with our friends Angela and her son Noah last Thursday night. Abby sure is smitten with Noah. I ordered a side of steamed veggies for her, and she ate them all. Abby is getting more skilled at feeding herself table food.

I'm looking forward to next Thursday and Friday since I am off from school (Snook Fair Days). I was hoping to take Abby to Sweet Berry Farms in Lexington for the pumpkin patch. Unfortunately they aren't having it at the Lexington location this year. So I guess we'll be looking for another "field trip."

mystery fever

We survived the first birthday party (although my house did not). Looks like I'll spend my day cleaning since school was cancelled. I'm glad that I can stay home with Abby today too.
Andy took her for her 12 month check up on Wednesday. When they took her temperature, it was 103!!! We had no idea that she was running a fever. The doctor checked her over, looked in her ears, etc, but did not give her the vaccinations. Later that evening, even after giving her Motrin, her fever was still 103.4.
Friday morning her temp was normal, up to 100 by noon, and 104.9 that night. We called the Dr. (and the ER). The said to give her Motrin and Tylenol, which I didn't know that you could give together. She was drinking fluids fine and still having wet diapers, so we're just hanging in there. She's been fussy this morning and I think she's running a lower fever. If it persists, we'll call the Dr again today.
It's just so weird that she has absolutely no other symptoms. Of course the fever is making her drowsy, but that's it.
This morning I had to run a few errands (McDonald's included). Abby fussed at the library, fussed in the car, fussed at Blockbuster. Amazingly, when we sat down at Mickey D's, Abby was bopping to the music happily with hash browns in one hand and sausage in the other. As soon as we got back into the car, she screamed again. O, the power of Ronald McDonald!

Birthday Prep Begins

Tomorrow is Abby's party, and I'm so excited. I can't wait to see her devour a cupcake (maybe two). She already wants everything off of our plates. Last weekend, her Paw Paw gave her half of his ice cream sandwich. She'd lean way over with her mouth open wide to take a bite. It was like the best thing ever.
Abby can even show you how old she is. If you ask, "How old are you?" Abby will hold up one finger (and then clap because we all say "YAY!"

This was probably the easiest first day I've ever had. Why didn't I move up grade levels years ago? The kids are really great. I look forward to an awesome year. And once again, I cannot say enough praise for Snook ISD. I am truly blessed to work in such a wonderful environment.
Don't get me wrong, I have quite a bit of routine to undergo. The kids thought it was grand to call me "Mrs. New York." My response was, "I wish I WAS Mrs. New York!" :D

Meet the teacher night was great. My students are absolutely precious. I hope that I still think so in a few weeks :D

Abby is squatting now. Some of my mama friends say that it's the next step after cruising and that she could be standing on her own soon! Abby is really jabbering now. It's so cute. I wonder what she's saying..."You people think I'm going to fall for this silly Sesame Street remote and while you keep the real one?!"

"Wow. Look at my hands. Aren't they neat? You've got hands too! Cool."

"Mary Had a Little Lamb rocks!"

Abby's also really into books and balloons. She got one from a birthday party and really enjoyed playing with it, so I tied one onto the shopping cart last time we went to HEB. She pulls the string, watches the balloon bob up and down, then she laughs and claps her hands. Abby is fascinated with her board books. She likes to open the book and turn the pages (as you can see in the picture below).
